Sermon Notes
Truth for Today, Hope for Tomorrow uses a unique approach to providing sermon notes. Unless you are a trained actor, it is not likely that you will be able to read a sermon and really put much expression in to it. Telling a story in your own words hold an audience much more effectively than just reading it. As Elder Robert Folkenberg was modifying Mark Finley's sermons, he struggled with how to put the notes in to a form that a person could actually preach, not just read like a book. Someone like Mark Finley is able to present the sermons without notes. But a typical person holding an evangelistic series is not able to that. On the opposite extreme is providing every word in the script. But this allows no freedom or spontaneity and leaves the presenter with the option of just reading.
So Elder Folkenberg decided to meet the two extremes in the middle. He has removed certain filler words from the scripts and put a dash in their place. You will not be tempted to just read the script because words are missing! But you will be able to easily tell what to say. By filling in the missing words you will find it much easier to "preach" the messages.
The sermon scripts are delivered to you in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You may print them out on your own printer attached to your computer. For those who do not wish to print out the files, you may order them pre-printed. The pre-printed notes come on 24 lb extra bright paper and are printed with a color laser process. The color toners are fused on to the paper at high heat resulting a extremely durable finish that is water and heat resistant.
There are over 700 pages of printed material. This requires a lot of ink and creates about 10 pounds of printed material! 3 ring binders or not really recommended for this many pages. You may wish to visit an office supply store and get an inexpensive expandable file folder with a flap.
